What Can Fans Expect From Disney Parks? | D23 2019

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will invite guests aboard the Halcyon, a starcruiser known throughout the galaxy for its impeccable service and exotic destinations. Onboard, they will stay in well-appointed cabins, experience onboard dining, make a planet-side excursion to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, and much more. (Disney)

I will admit, since I have joined LRM Online, I have been pushing to cover more theme-park related stuff. We live in a time where you can visit Hogwarts, Batuu, and even Avengers Campus on your next family vacation. So, it seems that theme parks now cross over with fanboy culture nowadays.

I have been a theme park fan since I was a kid. After falling in love with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars, my fandom was cemented after visiting Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and stepping into those worlds via the Indiana Jones Adventure and Star Tours.

Now I’m an Annual Passport-holder, going very frequently to these parks with my family. So, when the opportunity to join in on the Disney Parks Presentation arose, I couldn’t resist. I want to bring all the great announcements of our favorite fandoms within the parks to you, dear reader! Hopefully, there are other like-minded fans out there that share my enthusiasm in this matter. Let’s begin!

The whole thing started when Bob Chapek, the chairman of parks, experiences and products at the Walt Disney Company, graced the stage to greet the audience. He said that Disney is the only place fans can be “part of the story.” He promised more Disney, more Pixar, more Marvel, and more Star Wars in the Parks. Hard to believe given how much they have already injected these IPs.

Star Wars was first up! Bob shared a video with guest reactions before a teaser featuring never before seen footage of the new ride Rise of the Resistance.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runnaway Railway will debut at Disneyland in 2022. A ride where you board a train and enter the 2D land of animation with Mickey Mouse and the gang.

It was also announce that Zootopia will be brought to life in Shanghai Disneyland through an entire new land called “City of Zootopia.” And Frozen will also be getting the land treatment over in Hong Kong.

Disney Parks will be partnering with Cirqu De Soleil for a new show in Walt Disney World based on Disney Animation. They are working very close with Animators at Disney who know the most about the Legacy if Disney Animation to bring this show to life. Expect that show to hit April 17th 2020!

Bryan Cornell — CEO or Target — was called to the stage to announce that store-in-store Disney Store’s will be opened within Target stores! That’s big news for collectors of all ages who love Marvel, Star Wars and Disney mercy.

Recruitment starts soon! Stan Lee was honored as they began to introduce the Avengers Campus, a Marvel themed land coming to Disney’s California Adventure and Disneyland Paris. These are actual campuses looking to recruit new superheroes.

The Spider-Man ride is called WEB — the world wide engineering brigade —allowing families to to actually spin webs. A Spider-Man experience where we meet Peter Parker experimenting with a new invention called “the Web Slinging vehicle”. This is a ride where we get to shoot webs out at little spider-bots that are on the loose.

A brand new E Ticket attraction will be part of “Phase 2” of Avengers Campus. It will feature a ride on a Quinjet to Wakanda where, using an all new ride technology, Imagineers will get us right up close into the action to fight along side The Avengers.

More was announced including a Doctor Strange encounter will be available as it looks like Disney’s California Adventure is getting it’s very own Sanctum. And for hungry heroes, Pym Kitchen, a restaurant that will shrink and grow food. This land will also allow you to meet Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at Epcot. The attraction will feature a new storytelling coaster that rotates to focus guests on the action, and will include the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster. (Disney/Marvel)

EPCOT will be getting an update very soon. “The biggest transformation of any park we’ve ever accomplished” says Bob Chapek. One of those new attractions will be Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. A story-telling coaster that rotates on an axis while launching backwards through space.

Other big Disney franchises will be coming to Epcot — like Moana and Ratatouille — will be getting new attractions within the update.

But most exciting, though, was when Dick Van Dyke was welcomed to the stage. Cherry Tree Lane — from Marry Poppins — was announced to be coming as a new attraction within the United Kingdom pavilion. Guests will be able to visit the iconic street from this classic Disney film sometime soon. More details are to be announced later.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will invite guests aboard the Halcyon, a starcruiser known throughout the galaxy for its impeccable service and exotic destinations. When they arrive onboard, guests will step into the ship’s main deck Atrium to begin their journey through a galaxy far, far away. (Disney/Lucasfilm)

Also discussed was the highly anticipated Star Wars-themed hotel: The Chandrilla Star Liner. A launch pod blasts you into space as stars woosh by and connecting you to the Star Liner. From here you spend two days and two nights living on the ship. Through the window on the cabin you will see all the various places your Star Liner is traveling past. But, like any Star Wars Adventure, this experience promises treachery around any corner.

Some of the experiences guests were shown included a family playing Sabak in a cantina, Kids and Adults facing off against a training remote while wielding a lightsaber, Guests visiting the bridge and even getting to try their hand at operating the Star Liner’s controls and defenses. Or maybe you would like to attend secret meetings deep within the mechanics of the ship, amongst it’s most inner workings.

If you’re a fan of Repunzel and the Disney film Tangled (no judging; it’s a good flick), it was also revealed that Disney’s fifth Cruise Liner — The Disney Wish — will be themed like said film, brandishing Repunzel on the ship’s stern.
