Star Wars star Mark Hamill has shaved off his beard. Mark Hamill revealed his clean shaved look in a Twitter post where he was showing off a joker cane he had been sent. Now why is this interesting, it doesn’t appear to be at first? Let me try and explain in the article below. Here is the tweet in question from Mark Hamill
Wait’ll you get a load of my #ClownPrinceOfCrimeCane!!! Many thanks to the folks at Sideshow Collectibles @collectsideshow for kindly sending me this killer addition to my Joker collection. The detail on his face captures the psycho in his soul! 🃏🤪 🖤-mh pic.twitter.com/NApQ8NSG09

Mark Hamill has been quoted as saying he does not like sporting a beard, the only reason he did have one for so long was at the request of directors JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson for his roles as the disgruntled Luke Skywalker in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. As we know Luke Skywalker died at the climax of The Last Jedi, but this is Star Wars and Luke was a Jedi. Fans have speculated that Luke will come back as a Force ghost to either his nephew Ben Solo or the hero of the movies Rey.

However, this speculation is largely unfounded, there has been zero confirmation of Luke returning and Hamill even said that he did not know if he would be coming back or not. It’s entirely possible that JJ Abrams has told him he will not be used as a Force ghost causing Hamill to shave off his beard. However, do I think this is the case? In a word, no!
I don’t think this means Luke will definitely not be making an appearance in Star Wars: Episode 9 as there are several possibilities here. One , that as he will only appear briefly as a Force ghost, Abrams doesn’t think he needs to keep the beard as they can use a fake beard instead. Secondly, it could be that Luke will look younger and not sport the beard when he does appear as a Force ghost, this de-ageing could also work as a method to make Ewan McGregor’s appearance as Obi Wan more realistic. Or of course it could simply be as said above that Luke won’t be in Star Wars Episode 9.
The thing to take away here is that despite Hamill’s Twitter feed blowing up with concerned fans, his lack of facial hair does not in any way confirm or reject his involvement in Episode 9. If I had to gamble either way, I would say Luke Skywalker will appear as a Force ghost in Episode 9, but that’s just my own opinion and shouldn’t be taken as gospel.
Let us know what you think of all this in the comments section below. Will Luke Skywalker be without beard in Episode 9, or will he just not appear at all?
