The latest Wheel of Time promo shows us the construction of one of the key props from Season 1. However, the prop in question also shows us one way that show will change from the books on which it is based.
The following promo shows fans the construction of the guitar of character Thom Merrilin. Thom is a Gleeman, which is a travelling performer, and he gets caught up with the main stars of the story. Thom sings and performs music for coin and lodgings and teaches the skill to young Rand and Matt as they flee across the land. However, in the books, Thom plays a harp, not a guitar. So that’s one element of the show that we know is changed from the book.

We also get the first piece of dialogue from the Wheel of Time show, and Thom. Actor Alexandre Willaume can be heard saying “Donation for the Gleeman?”. It’s not much, but with so little shown or glimpsed from Wheel of Time it has fans buzzing.

The Wheel of Time is a massive 14 book fantasy series from author Robert Jordan. The series is so massive that whilst I quickly moved through the first 7 books, I’ve found myself tuck on 9 for some time. If Wheel of Time is successful for Amazon, one can imagine they could have a whopping 14-15 seasons worth of content. Behind The Lord of the Rings, (also coming from Amazon) and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), The Wheel of Time is one of the biggest and most popular fantasy franchise.
I expect a lot of changes in the adaptation of this story. Wheel of Time Season 1 I expect to cover a lot of the first two books in the series. However that’s not certain and even after that we don’t yet have an idea how this adaptation is being handled.
Let us know what you think of this latest Wheel of Time promo? Any The Wheel of Time fans annoyed about Thom’s instrument change? Thoughts below as always.
