Where Next For These Characters? An Obi-Wan Kenobi Retrospective

Where Next For These Characters? An Obi-Wan Kenobi Retrospective

Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi has come and gone, one question remains. What comes next for these characters? Is this the last we see of either Kenobi or Vader again until they both next appear in the original Star Wars movie chronologically? Or are there more stories to tell? What about the show’s other main character of Reva?

Let’s have a look at where things could go, and what Lucasfilm must be careful of. Obi-Wan Kenobi arguably bent or broke the canon depending on your own point of view. If there is to be a next step for these characters, then it cannot tell the same story again. Equally, I don’t see how we can have any more interactions between Vader and Kenobi. This kinda worked for me, wish it was better executed, but I accept it. To go for that again, is both pointless and risky.

When it comes to where I personally would like to see Vader go, it would be a bit of a jump into a show he stars in himself. I won’t go through all of that again, as you can find my thoughts in the related link below. However outside of that idea, I would also add that something similar could work in the pre-A New Hope timeline as well.

But what about Kenobi and Reva? Here’s thing thing, for me you can have Kenobi and Reva interact in a future show, or you can have Reva interact with Vader once again. However, I stress again, that more Kenobi vs Vader just won’t work.

Dark

On one hand we could have a Reva led show, where she is discovering what comes next for her, and her dealing with the memory of Vader would be key. However, another rematch between the pair, or another attempted assassination by Reva, would be silly. Both because we know what will happen before it does and because the character knows she has no chance. Reva being hunted down by her old colleagues the Inquistors though, if they discovered she lives, that could work?

Reva was underdeveloped in Obi-Wan Kenobi. If the character does return I think the next step would be to have her lead a show of her own to develop the character further. Therefore, an ex-Inquisitor being hunted by those she was with, becomes an interesting concept.

Or go the other way, Have Reva explore where all the other escaped Jedi have been going and join them, perhaps working with the partisans to work against the Empire. In this kind of show, it would also be easier to have Obi-Wan involved also. Though, That would not be my preference. I don’t see any need for Kenobi or Reva to ever meet again.

Qui-Gon

The most obvious next step for Obi-Wan himself is a smaller scale show. A show focused on Kenobi’s training he receives from Qui-Gon. This could be similar to the Yoda arc in The Clone Wars where he begins his training from Qui-Gon and has various tasks to perform. In other words, there would be reasons now for Obi-Wan to be willing to leave Tatooine and who knows what could go wrong whilst he does so? You could even have Kenobi end this second series by being able to commune with Yoda from a distance for the first time.

Leia?

No more Leia for me, I think the character worked really well in Kenobi despite some canon bending. However like Vader v Kenobi, using Leia again just becomes too risky for the canon overall. If Lucasfilm however are determined to go to that well again for Leia? It can be done without busting the canon. Just keep her far away from Vader, Kenobi, or Tatooine and you’re golden.

So yes, there is potential for more stories following on from Obi-Wan Kenobi. However these stories should not be told any longer in the same show. Where next for these characters? There are a variety of options, just as long as it’s not the same place they end up.

Oh. and if you are reading this Kathy Kennedy, as I am sure you are (lol). The ship needs tightening up. Obi-Wan Kenobi could have been A+ material and for it barely scratched at B+. If I and other fans can think of better ways to fix the problems in the show within minutes, what are your writing team doing during filming? Was Deborah Chow not able to spot these script issues during filming either? The details need to be sharper next time out.

What do you think of this Obi-Wan Kenobi retrospective? Where next for these characters? As always, leave your opinions below, or over on Discord.
