Who Should The Next Avengers Villain Be? Marvel Asks The Fans!

Avengers 5 Will Take Time Explains Kevin Feige

Avengers 5' 2022: Release Date, Cast, Team, and Everything We Know Now

It’s not news that Marvel’s Phases 1-3 are groundbreaking. The depth and interconnected storylines completely changed the scope of of films in general let alone the superhero genre. We are spoiled with films beginning in 2008 with Iron Man building to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. I do feel that the Avengers’ villains are a weaker point if they are to have one, aside from Thanos. With the demise of the Titan, many are curious as to who will take over the role as the overarching Avengers’ villain. Marvel asked the fans who they think should take over.

The hosts definitely pose some viable options. The Skrulls have been a part of the discussion for some time now with Talos and Co. making appearances in Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: FFH. Another option could be to explore the Kree who are also make numerous appearances in the MCU. The other option they throw out isn’t necessarily a villain per say. The hosts suggest using Hulkling of the Young Avengers (half Skrull, half Kree) working to merge the Skrulls and Kree. This could be interesting to see how it impacts the Avengers. However, most films are only as good as it’s villain, and Avengers have quite the shoes to fill from the previous phases. I feel the Skrulls and Krees could be part of a build up to a primary villain. So, who are fans hoping for?

Galactus

Epic Marvel Phase Four Fan Art Brings Galactus Into The MCU ...

Galactus could be a good pick, but I think many fans just want to see something that is better than what we got in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. At this point that is pretty much anything, right? I mean the Silver Surfer was done so well with CGI then we got a huge cloud for Galactus…? Still, he is clearly a formidable foe for the Avengers. Galactus could come in with his consumption of planets concept. This could also be the easiest way to bring in the FF to the MCU.

Kang The Conqueror

Going Back in Time with Kang the Conqueror | Marvel

There could be numerous possibilities with Kang the Conqueror. Kang is the once Egyptian god and is the master of time travel which gives the MCU the freedom to navigate, and change, time lines, universes, characters, a reset, etc. The character is also another connection to the Fantastic Four. He is depicted in the comics as descendant of Reed Richards, which is the most obvious tie-in. One comic storyline involves Mantis as the love interest of Kang. There could also be a connection to Phase 4’s Eternals. The possibilities with Kang seem endless, and it would be nice to see a character not previously making their presence directly known in the MCU. But, the character earning the most love from Marvel fans at the moment is…

Dr. Doom

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Writers Reveal How They Would Make a Great ...

Yes, we have seen the character before, but has he been given the justice he deserves? The short answer is no. When I think of Marvel I think of Dr. Doom as one of the top villains. The character appears in 2005 and 2007 portrayed by Julian McMahon in The Fantastic Four and its sequel. In 2015, Toby Kebbell filled the role in the reboot. It is not the actors that are the downfall of those characters, but the writing.

We have seen enough of the origin story for the Fantastic Four. This focus results in Dr. Doom being a byproduct of the team with a rushed character arc.  Now there can be time to properly build the character, much as MCU has done with Thanos. Properly incorporating Dr. Doom can also bring together the Skrulls, Krees and the Fantastic Four. There is also a plethora of amazing source material they can use.
