If you haven’t heard, actor Adam Sandler was snubbed for an Oscar nomination this year. Yes, you read that correctly. While I haven’t seen the film, word around the news world is that Sandler turned in an amazing performance for his role in the Indie filk, Uncut Gems.
During a recent interview, Academy voters stated that it has much to do with Sandler’s complete body of work. Up until recent years, Sandler has never been thought of as a serious actor and his portfolio includes many silly films. You can check out a quote from one of the unnamed voters below.
“That [performance] was a tour de force. He’s emerging as a truly great actor, but then he does cheesy Netflix comedies that are really dumb,” said the character actor.”

Certainly a ‘tour de force’ warrants a nomination, right?
Should that disqualify him for a nomination? Not in my book. However, the academy voter did say if Sandler turns in another performance of the same quality in the near future, things may change. In my opinion, the actors or actresses should be judged solely on the performance being considered and using their previous work as a way to deny them a nomination just seems, wrong.
