Why Nick Fury Didn’t Call Captain Marvel Earlier, According To Samuel L. Jackson

I feel like a ridiculous amount of our energy when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or shared universes in general) is spent wondering why certain other superheroes aren’t around to help out others in their own plights. Many wondered why no one helped out Tony in Iron Man 3, and even more are still wondering why Captain Marvel wasn’t called in Avengers or Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Actor Samuel L. Jackson was asked this very question by CinemaBlend recently. After all, his character Nick Fury is the one who pulls out the pager to call Carol Danvers in that iconic Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene, so he would likely know. Why didn’t he call her during any of those other world-destroying situations? Here’s what he had to say:

“She said only in emergencies. Other emergencies could be handled by the people who were present. It’s just an alien invasion, that’s something that could be handled. Half the population wasn’t dying and flicking off and doing whatever. We finally have an emergency that I feel warrants her presence. This is unprecedented. How are you gonna fight that? I can’t fight that. If I’m not here, I need to find someone to come here who can handle it. All those people are ineffective. They’re great for normal, everyday world disaster. But intergalactic badass who has all the Infinity Stones needs a bit more.”

I mean, I guess he has a point. I guess it just depends one what considers “an emergency.” By Nick Fury’s comments alone in The Avengers where he says they’ve been made very desperate, you’d think that’d be worth a push. Then again, maybe it’s something he would have done if his bloody Coulson card trick didn’t work.

What do you think of Jackson’s comments? Do you agree, and do you think fans just need to get over the fact that thing will never line up 100%? Let us know down below!
