Marvel Studios is pretty amazing for setting up potential future iterations of current superheroes. For years, we’ve been wondering if either The Winter Soldier or Falcon will be taking over as Captain America in the near future, and when Shuri was introduced, it was hard for fans not to wonder when she’d take over the mantle of the Black Panther.

It seems very likely that she may do so much earlier than anticipated. Before the credits rolled on Avengers: Infinity War, we saw T’Challa disintegrate into dust, along with countless other superheroes. However, Shuri’s own fate was left up in the air, with her seemingly getting knocked out in her lab. Could she potentially wear the suit in the next film?

At MCM Comic-Con in London, she was asked by the audience if she was prepared to step up as Black Panther and ruler of Wakanda, and she gave a very careful, but interesting response, saying, “To be comic book-accurate, yes.”

I’ve gotta say, I love this response, and while I think we’ll definitely be seeing T’Challa return in the next film, I do think Avengers 4 gives Shuri an opportunity to really come into her own as a character and as a hero. She was definitely an audience favorite in the standalone Black Panther film, so I don’t think it’s out of the question to assume she’d make a more-than-adequate placeholder until the king himself returns.

What do you think of Shuri potentially taking over as Black Panther? Sound off down below!
