Will Smith Admits He Should Have Taken The Role In The Matrix

One of the all-time great blunders in passing on a role is of course actor Will Smith’s decision to pass on the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith has recently made clear that one of the bigger reasons he passed on the role was due to the Wachowskis pitch, which he says was confusing to say the least, and didn’t really convey the awesomeness of what they had in mind.

Smith’s upcoming film, Gemini Man, in which Smith will do battle with a younger and de-aged version of himself. The actor was recently asked by ReelBlend what advice he would give his real younger self if he could go back in time, you can check out what he had to say below.

“Yeah, probably Wild Wild West. I’d go back to the Wild Wild West and I would say, ‘A**hole, why didn’t you do The Matrix?’”

The role of course went to Keanu Reeves, and while he was already a pretty big star in Hollywood, certainly had his status elevatd even more by being in, what is in my opinion, one of the best films ever made. The first film, not the atrocious sequels.

Are you glad Keanu Reeves ended up with the role, or do you think Will Smith would have been better? Let us know in the comments down below!
