Tom Holland and Will Smith will star in the animated film Spies in Disguise for 20th Century Fox, reports Variety.
The project is based on a 2009 short film titled Pigeon: Impossible, written and directed by Lucas Martell, who has only directed shorts and has no features on his list of credits. Pigeon: Impossible followed a secret agent who nearly starts a global conflict when a pigeon becomes stuck in his government-issued nuclear briefcase.
No word yet who will be playing the pigeon, the secret agent, or the briefcase, assuming these characters… and a briefcase… return in Spies in Disguise. I’d like to picture Smith as the secret agent and Holland as the pigeon, but it really is too early to tell, and with animation, anybody could be playing anyone… or anything…
Martell will not be directing the feature Spies in Disguise, based on his short, as it will be handled by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane. Bruno previously worked on Epic and The Peanuts Movie, while Quance worked on Ice Age: Collision Course and Ferdinand, which comes out this December. The pair will again be working for Fox Animation, Blue Sky Studios, and Cherin Entertainment, who will oversee the project and are responsible for the previously mentioned animated features.
Spies In Disguise already has a release date set for January 18, 2019.
