There are so many questions we all have about the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. With Thanos snapping many superheroes out of existence and the film slate of the MCU post-Avengers 4 still be a giant mystery, we can’t help but wonder what fate the film has in store for our heroes, including one Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America.
But, of course, Captain America is just a title. Sure, most of us associate that title with Steve, but the reality is that there have been others who have taken on the name in the comics, including Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, both of whom are present and accounted for in the MCU (Oh, wait, they’ve been snapped out of existence too…maybe not?).
But what does one Marvel Studios vet think? Here’s what Frank Grillo had to say about it to Larry King.
“I don’t know [who is going to be the next Captain America]. I don’t know but there have been rumors that Captain America could be African American, it can be a woman. So they’re looking.”

Holy crap, time to get out your torches and pitchforks, right? Well, no not yet. First of all, as I said before, Sam Wilson has already had a history as Cap in the comics, so him taking on the mantle makes sense. “But what if it’s a woman?” I hear you say.
While I can’t prove this case in particular, actors usually don’t have the inside scoop on a lot of things. For all we know, the rumors Grillo heard could have been from websites, not from his own internal meetings, so I wouldn’t get too worked up yet. Besides, Marvel Studios has done a great job with their characters so far, so I’m sure no matter what direction they take (woman or not), it’ll be one we’ll accept in due time.
