The Wheel of Time is a series that has been a long time coming. It’s a novel series that lasted decades in print form before being wrapped up in 2013. Given how long it’s run, it’s no surprise that it served as the entry point for the genre for countless fantasy fans out there. So, when Amazon bought up rights to the series and began its production, it was making the dreams of millions of people out there come true.

And they were off to a great start as well. They launched with an exciting roundtable reading video — a video that fired up the imaginations of fans worldwide. Seriously, go ahead and watch this video down below and tell me it doesn’t get you at least a little bit pumped about seeing the series coming to life. You can’t.

But, like every other series out there, The Wheel of Time brought things to a halt when the pandemic hit. The production shot at least partly in Prague, Czech Republic, and it’s hard to imagine this whole thing wouldn’t affect them. More specifically, could some new statements from Czech President Miloš Zeman negatively affect the production?

The president told Radio Frekvence 1 (via Expats.cz) that the borders of the country should stay closed for a year if Czech people visited countries where the virus kept spreading. Keep in mind, this is not a guaranteed ordinance that the Czech Republic is closing their borders, but if it does become one, what will this mean going forward?

Would The Wheel of Time need to wait until they reopen, or would they have to find another way to shoot their Czech-centric scenes? I’m sure as the COVID-19 pandemic goes away, we will start to see other countries take similar tentative steps to opening things up. As such, The Wheel of Time may not be the only production affected in such a way.
