Wilmer Valderrama To Star In New Zorro Series From Disney!

Hey! Check it out! A reboot/reimagining that isn’t set in Europe’s royal history or it’s high class! That ‘70s Show and NCIS star, Wilmer Valderrama, is starring and producing in a Zorro live-action series from Disney Branded Television and Zorro Productions. The project is still in development and Valderrama is set to take on the role of Don Diego de la Vega and his alter ego, Zorro.

Zorro Returns! Maybe…

Valderrama talks about how he feels about the character and how he feels working on this project:

Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero. As an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility in the stories that I help bring to life. To partner with Gary and Disney to bring Zorro back into the family after 60 years and be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true.

Disney Branded Television’s new president, Ayo Davis, shared what they plan on doing with the project:

We’re reimagining this Disney classic as a compelling period piece, set in Pueblo de Los Angeles, but told in a very modern telenovela style – with richly drawn contemporary characters and relationships set against the action, drama, suspense and humor of the original, iconic Zorro. Wilmer shares our commitment to reflect the interesting and rich diversity of the human experience and we look forward to delivering a culturally relevant and entertaining story with definitional characters that will connect with our viewers for generations to come.

A Deep Cut IP Reboot, Finally

Along with Valderrama, Disney Branded TV’s creative chief, Gary Marsh, is also serving as executive producer. The network for this series hasn’t been determined yet, but I hope it gets the green light. I really liked The Mask of Zorro as a kid and even though there are so many reboots, this one I’m curious about. It’s something different. Europe’s history and royal and high class are used in so many projects. Although, I am enjoying a few projects like The Great. It’s freaking insane!
