Wonder Woman 1984: The Film’s Release Has Been Pushed To December

Bad news for fans of DC and superhero films in general as Wonder Woman 1984 has once again had its release date changed from the not too far off date of October 2, to a Christmas day release. The studio’s decision was is reportedly due to still being unsure of when big market theaters would open again.

This will be the fourth release date the film has seen. Originally slated for a June 2020 release, the film was pushed to August, then October, and now to December 25. It has of course went through these changes due to the pandemic.

Patty Jenkins had the following to say in a statement:

“First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Toby Emmerich, Warner’s film chairman:

“Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with Wonder Woman 1984 she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love.”

The original film, which pulled in close to a billion dollars at the box-office, is credited by many as the one that corrected the path of DC’s big-screen adventures. Others in that line include Aquaman (which also saw a December release date) and the wonderfully fun Shazam! Of course, Joker also helped with this batch of DC films, but it’s not quite the same as the three I mentioned.

So, there you have it, Wonder Woman 1984 is once again pushed back, and, no matter how you feel about it, there’s not much, anything really, that we fans can do about it but wait.
