A little over a week ago, it was reported by Deadline that actress Kristen Wiig would be taking on the role of Wonder Woman 2 big bad, Cheetah. This news came only a couple days after it was reported that Emma Stone had turned down the role.
If you had any doubts about director Patty Jenkins jumping from Emma Stone to Kristen Wiig, feel free to cast those to the wind. Jenkins took to Twitter to confirm that Wiig has officially signed on to play the villainous. Here’s what Jenkins had to say in the tweet.
“So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot”

Wonder Woman 2 is supposedly set to reunite Diana with previous squeeze Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine), and will reportedly take place during the height of the Cold War in the 1980s. Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham wrote the screenplay based on a treatment from Johns and Jenkins. As of this writing, the specific plot details are unclear — though given how far away the film is (around 2 years), it makes sense.
While Wiig has proven her talents as both a comedic and dramatic actress, one can’t help but wonder if she’ll have what it takes to play a villain. That’ll be one of the more interesting aspects to keep an eye on when the film comes out.
