WonderCon 2019 – New Line/Warner Bros. Panel Offers Us Amazing Godzilla Footage

WonderCon 2019 in Anaheim, California’s main attraction this year was meant to be New Line Cinema & Warner Bros. Pictures’ SHAZAM! But for me personally the Warner Bros./New Line panel on Saturday afternoon’s highlight had to be the footage that was shown from the upcoming film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. During the panel moderator Chuey Martinez, co-writer and producer on the film Zach Shields and co-writer and director Michael Dougherty introduced the attendees to a five minute clip from the film.

SPOILER ALERT: THE FOLLOWING INCLUDES A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FOOTAGE SHOWN FROM GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS.

The scene kicks off at the location of the frozen King Ghidorah, where a military base has been set up. Vera Farmiga’s character along with Millie Bobby Brown’s character are setting up explosives up on the ice wall containing the titan. Once the charges are set both characters race to a helicopter along with some of the crew. As they fly away for some unknown reason they detonate the explosives, releasing King Ghidorah in dramatic fashion as the titan emerges from the ice, each of it’s three heads ready to cause havoc.

Now using another device, Farmiga’s character turns on another device that sends out a signal that seems to be a way to call Godzilla. As we look into the ice a blue light starts emerging from underneath until he finally comes to the surface and comes face to face with King Ghidorah. It sets up for one massive confrontation. From this point forward, the clip cuts to various different scenes of the monsters causing all kinds of destruction. In ends with King Ghidorah and Godzilla blasting each other with their atomic breath.

By the looks of just this scene it looks like we are finally going to get the Godzilla film that fans have been waiting for. Unlike the first film that was released in 2014, this sequel is going to give us the epic titans that we have wanted to see come face to face with Godzilla including of course King Ghidorah, Ronan and Mothra as well as all the glorious destruction that comes with them. Dougherty even stated that he is looking to “put the God, back in Godzilla” and that the scene with King Ghidorah standing on top of a volcano was a nod to the Biblical book of Revelations. I am very excited to see how this film plays out.
