It’s been minute since we’ve heard anything about World War Z 2. This is a project that’s been in development since that first movie hit theaters, and like that first movie, it seems like it’s had quite a difficult time hitting the big screen — but it hasn’t been for a lack of trying. David Fincher has been set to direct the film for a good while now, but it still seems to be lacking any real momentum.
Well, fret not, because whether you want to see it or not it looks like it’ll actually be happening…presumably. While on the red carpet of the premiere of Beautiful Boy, Variety asked producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and Gardner was more than happy to give an update:
“Oh, we’re starting to shoot in June. What more do you need to know? Brad Pitt is Gerry Lane, he’s back. David Fincher is directing.”

In response to the “what more do you need to know” bit, the interviewer went on to ask how they knew when they had the script completely ironed out, and Kleiner clarified that they’re still working on it:
“We’re still working on the script, but [screenwriter Dennis Kelly (Matilda The Musical)] has done amazing job, and we think it’s going to be great.”
So, when all said and done, it’d be all too easy for this release date to get pushed yet again. After all, when it comes to filmmaking, if you have a dud script, you’ll likely have a dud film, so it’s probably good of them to get it right than get it fast.
