Get ready folks because we are about to Return to the 36 Chambers. Yes, y’all, it’s time to Protect Ya Neck because killer bees are about to swarm your TV set. Fans of the Wu-Tang clan have HULU to thank. The streaming service has ordered 10-episodes of the series aptly titled Wu-Tang: An American Saga. Inspired by the true origin story of the powerhouse hip-hop group whose origins trace back to 1990s New York City. Wu-Tang: An American Saga will chronicle the group’s origins during a time when the crack cocaine epidemic was sweeping Staten Island.
The group’s influence on music is undeniable. Their unique sounds produced by The Rza have affected a variety of musical genres. Who hasn’t spent time deciphering the inventive wordplay found in the bars of “Ghost Face Killa” or “Raekwon”? More importantly, would hip-hop be the same had the Wu-Tang Clan never existed? I think not. Though long deceased, Wu-Tang’s zaniest personality will surely be portrayed in the 10-episode series at HULU.
When discussing the O.D.B., musical luminary, The Rza had this to say:
“Wu-Tang through our music has always strove to inspire as we entertain. This opportunity to continue the Wu – Saga in a 10-episode series will exponentially increase our inspirational style of entertainment. In the immortal words of ODB ‘Wu-Tang is for the Children.’”
Alex Tse, writer of this year’s Superfly remake serves as the series creator and writer. Meanwhile, Brian Grazer, producer of blockbuster Hollywood films such as American Made, Liar Liar, A Beautiful Mind, Angels and Demons, and many more will be executive producing Wu-Tang: An American Saga alongside Francie Calfo who is best known for serving as executive producer on Fox’s hit series Empire.
The RZA, The GZA, The Ol’ Dirty Dirty Bastard! Folks, Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nothing to f*** with.
