WWE’s Money In The Bank Matches Taking Place At Corporate Headquarters

Say what you will about World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), they figured out a way to stay operational during this pandemic. I had my doubts that WrestleMania 36 would be any good without a crowd and being pre-recorded. Luckily I was proved wrong, it was a good show that distracted my daughter and me for two nights.

Probably the most talked-about match was the Boneyard Match featuring The Undertaker and AJ Styles. Due to the circumstances, they took liberties to make it more cinematic. Something similar was done with Edge and Randy Orton’s match through the WWE Performance Center. Also let’s not forget the Firefly Funhouse “match” between John Cena and Bray Wyatt.

With the success of these matches WWE would be foolish not to do more, especially if these circumstances continue for a few months. Their next PPV is on Sunday May 10th, and it’s the popular event Money In The Bank.

Today WWE announced that both their men’s and women’s Money In The Bank latter matches will include “an even more unique challenge ahead of them than usual”. The match will not take place in the traditional ring, but at WWE Corporate Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.

The participants will have to “climb the corporate ladder”. The match will start on the ground floor of the building. The briefcases that contain the contracts for the championship matches will be hanging on the roof of the corporate tower.

Traditionally, the Money in the Bank ladder match takes place in the ring with the Money in the Bank case hanging in the middle. To win the match one of the participants must climb a ladder and take down the case. The contract in the case can be cashed at any time throughout one year.

The first Money in the Bank match took place at WrestleMania 21 and it was won by Edge in 2005. Then for five years the match would take place at the “Showcase of the Immortals”. In 2010 Money in the Bank got it’s own PPV. Until 2017 only male superstars had a Money in the Bank matches. In the inaugural women’s match Carmella won the briefcase.

I am excited to see how this match plays out. After watching a brilliant ladder match for the SmackDown tag team titles at WrestleMania and SmackDown, it’s clear that the match loses some luster without a crowd to react to some of the amazing athletism of the wrestlers. If your going to try something different, now is the time.
