Xbox boss Phil Spencer says there will be no Activision games appearing on Game Pass until 2024. Now that Xbox’s acquisition of Activision is complete fans had hoped we may soon start to see titles added. Whilst that absolutely will happen eventually, Spencer appeared on the official Xbox podcast to say it will take time.
As Spencer explains, the process of getting the back catalog onto Game Pass has only just begun. Xbox were unsure whether the deal would be the go ahead due to regulatory matters. Therefore, Spencer says they didn’t start this process until approval was granted.
Spencer then said 2024 is likely when the first Activision games will arrive. However he also stressed if it is going to be any sooner he would/will announce that up front.

Fans already know not to expect Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to arrive on Game Pass, yet. Sony still has a deal which must be honored with Activision (probably for exclusive or timed exclusives items, maps etc). Therefore, the launch across all platforms will be as it was before the sale went through. Game Pass subscribers have to pay full price and may get items slower than PlayStation users.
Spencer also noted that he is going to be spending time with the Activision teams soon. Spencer wants to hear what they’re most passionate about to then help them make that a reality. In other words, other than games Activision no longer has the licences for, any old franchise can potentially be rebooted. Spencer also said with Game Pass they have the ability to do a “revisited” game or series. Whilst not defined one would assume, taking an old game and stabilizing it for the current generation. In other words, playable on Series X and PC with much better settings than they used to run at.
