Xbox’s Xbox Series X/S is their fastest selling console to date. Plus, the PS5 moves over 10 Million units! read on for more details.
Unsurprisingly the Xbox Series X/S has sold more than the original Xbox, and the Xbox One. However I am surprised it has also outsold the Xbox 360. Microsoft reported details from its fourth fiscal quarter this week. See below courtesy of Tom Warren.
Microsoft CEO @satyanadella on Xbox / gaming. "We're all in on games. The Xbox Series S and X are our fastest selling consoles ever, with more consoles sold life-to-date than any previous generation."

Given that supply issues have hit both new consoles this generation the sales of both are impressive. To no-one’s surprise the PS5 is still the most popular console choice amongst gamers. Sony also announced a milestone of their own. The PS5 was never going to be their fastest selling console, but they have confirmed that they have shifted over 10 Million units of the PS5 since launch.
It’s official: PS5 has sold 10 million consoles. Thank you!

That means we are looking at roughly 6.5 Million Xbox consoles sold and around 10 Million PS5’s. Frankly, I think both companies are going to be very happy with these results. I have to admit as an owner of an Xbox Series X these consoles are some bit of kit. We are certainly in a different position than the previous consoles generation launch.

Microsoft had a horrible time releasing an underpowered Xbox One that was bundled with a Kinect no one seemed to want. This was compounded by bad press pre-release when it was revealed that Xbox wanted to change the way digital ownership worked and Sony capitalized on the publicity despite reports later they were going to do the same thing. It would be fair to say that Xbox has turned things around and has reacquired it’s place as the second most popular high end console. I’m sure Game Pass has a lot to do with that, and if rumors are true, is something Sony are looking to copy for PlayStation.
Both consoles are great, both sold really well, and both do things very differently with their own content. What’s not to be happy about? Especially considering more and more cross-play game are happening. It should not be too long before you can play multi platform games with friends no matter what console they chose.
Give any thoughts you have on the news that Xbox’s Xbox Series X/S is their fastest selling console to date and that the PS5 moves over 10 Million units.
