Xolo Maridueña Talks About Getting Ready For Blue Beetle

Back in August, it was announced that Xolo Maridueña will be playing the Blue Beetle. The DC movie will be coming out next year and Maridueña has been getting ready for the role. During an interview with USA Today, Xolo Maridueña talks about his preparations for Blue Beetle.

Getting Ready

When asked if a DC superhero is the next logical role after teen karate character, Maridueña said:

Honestly, it feels like I’ve skipped a few stepping stones. Cobra Kai has been such a wonderful opportunity, (and) it feels a little bit intimidating being this is my first movie and it’s in a realm that’s totally different than anything I’ve ever worked on. I’m nervous, but I’m excited. It’s gonna be important, not only for Latinos and to see people of color, brown people, represented onscreen, but also show a story that we haven’t really seen before.

They also asked if he’s tried on the suit yet:

We’ve done two suit fittings. They’re hoping that I get more buff by the time we actually start filming. But I’ve seen the suit, and it looks awesome.

Maridueña has been working with the Netflix series, Cobra Kai, as the character, Miguel, since 2017. Season 5 has already finished filming so he already had an excellent start on training for the role of Blue Beetle. Maridueña is, of course, strong and athletic as we’ve seen in Cobra Kai. But he has one of those faces that can age up or down depending on facial hair and haircut. I think he will be able to pull off playing the young hero, Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle), for a while. It can be annoying watching an obvious almost 30 year-old cast as a teen in a project.

What do you think of Xolo Maridueña as the Blue Beetle? Let me know in the comments.
