Looks like they’re going to play it safe with xXx 3: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE. The second sequel to Vin Diesel’s 2002 xXx just got itself a release date, and it’s right in that window of the year where if it’s a hit, great, but if it isn’t no one is going to lose their minds: January.
THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE will mark Diesel’s return to the series, after he sat out xXx: STATE OF THE UNION. Paramount has likely paid attention to how Diesel fares in non-FAST & FURIOUS films and has decided on a low-key release date for the flick. The film is slated to come out next year on January 20. It’s a wise strategy, since competition is fairly light that time of year, and a film like XANDER CAGE could benefit from that and the lowered expectations usually associated with movies opening in January and February. Just look at what a release in this window did for DEADPOOL.
The film will be directed by D.J. Caruso, have Donnie Yen as its villain, and it’s rumored that Ice Cube– who starred in STATE OF THE UNION– could return.
