Y: The Last Man Canceled! Showrunner, Eliza Clark, Not Ready To Throw In The Towel

After just one season, Y: The Last Man has been canceled. This was a show on my watch list, but comments from Rotten Tomatoes have me a little worried. Some commenters recommended to just read the comics. Y: The Last Man was written by Brian K. Vaughan and the story does sound interesting. If all mammals with the y chromosome died except for one man and his capuchin monkey, life would be hard. That’s about half the population gone. We all need each other for life to keep going and I don’t just mean for procreating. Also, an aging population and no new humans, this dystopian drama would turn more and more frightening as the years go by.

Former showrunners, Aida Croal and Michael Green, were taken in by FX and Vaughan. Vaughan told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017:

When [Green] first pitched his take on it to Nina Jacobson and me a long time ago, he came in saying he wanted to do something about toxic masculinity. It felt very relevant, and unfortunately, I think it’s only become more relevant with each passing day. His take on it was really brave and very different but exciting as well. I really admire how audacious he’s been with his translation.

New showrunner, Eliza Clark, took over for Croal and Green because of creative differences. Clark wanted the series to have five seasons with 10 episodes each. FX hasn’t confirmed the cancellation of Y: The Last Man, but Clark tweeted a statement on the hopes of a season 2 in the future.

Many commenters on Rotten Tomatoes talk about boring characters and slow moving plot. Commenters also complained about Yorick. Some found him annoying. Although, some loved the season and found it to be exciting. I’ve only seen a few clips and I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy Y: The Last Man series, but I’ll try it. And yes, Yorick is annoying.

What do you think of Y: The Last Man canceled? Did you enjoy the series? Let me know in the comments below.
