Covid19…Sins & Virtues will be one of the first films released that is tied directly to the lockdown.

With over fifty filmmakers involved, the project challenged them to challenge them in creating stories during the pandemic.

From the entertainment executive Alex Mendoza, the anthology allowed 14 creative teams to come off with an assigned story relating to the seven sins and seven virtues. The teams had less than three weeks to write and to develop the episodes with their principal photography completed by May 15.

The episodes were filmed simultaneously by 17 different crews in multiple locations. The filmmakers had three main rules to follow:

• It must be filmed with assets at hand;
• The story must use COVID-19 forced isolation only as background;
• And the episode must be related to the randomly assigned sin/virtue as the episode’s central theme.

The episodes are currently being produced by Mendoza and the executives of True Form Films, including Yennifer Behrens (The Way Back), and Mauricio Mendoza (Resurrection Blvd.).

LRM Online spoke in a lengthy, detailed discussion with Behrens, Mendoza, and filmmaker Laura Patalano over a Zoom call. We discussed the origination of the project, rules of development, the stories, and the possible challenges to this ambitious project.

There was no open call issued for this project. All the filmmakers were invited and challenged by the producers. Each episode runtimes vary from 3 to 12 minutes. A music composer is provided for all the episodes. The lead producers will finish and assemble the anthology film with an additional editor and a post-production team.

No firm release date has been set yet for Covid19…Sins & Virtues, but it is expected by the end of this year. There are already talks about a sequel anthology film titled Covid19…Sins & Virtues: The Second Wave.
