Fans first taste of Disney Star Wars concluded in an epic finale last night, as the crew of the ship Ghost had their final adventure. While their current whereabouts are unknown, according to executive producer Pablo Hildago, who spoke about the finale on latest an episode of Rebels Recon, both the young Jedi Ezra Bridger and fan favorite Grand Admiral Thrawn survived the finale:

“Oh I’ve thought a lot about that, yeah I wonder and, it’s one of those things where you go, ‘Boy I’d love to do an end credits scene,’ but as tempting as that is I go, ‘Well if I ever cover that then I wanna do it right and I don’t wanna commit to things right now because things might change.’ So, I have a lot of theories about it and what I think happens and where they are. I’ll say this much they’re not dead, both of them survive it, both Ezra and Thrawn I would say survive it.”

It was clarified in the final moments of the show that Ezra did indeed survive, but now we have confirmation that Thrawn did as well. I for one hope the reason for them surviving is that we may see one or both of them somewhere down the line in the Star Wars universe.

While I enjoyed The Force Awakens and thought J.J. Abrams laid some nice, safe groundwork to reboot the franchise, Rebels is probably my favorite piece of Disney produced Star Wars content, except of course for Rogue One. I originally thought it may be geared too much toward children, but after watching a few episodes, I realized there is more than enough story for adults to enjoy as well.
