When you think Quentin Tarantino, chances are you don’t really think of family-friendly, G-rated fare. Over the course of his extensive career, he’s never put out a movie that didn’t, at some point, turn into a bloodbath. His films are full of tense, swear-filled, hyper-violent moments, and you could hardly imagine his involvement with a project without that being the case.

It’s because of that that his potential involvement in a Star Trek movie all those months ago was a bit odd. Star Trek has, by and large, been a PG-13-centric-type series. Sure, the brand has since gotten a bit more mature with projects like Star Trek: Discovery, but it isn’t really the approach one thinks of. So would the studio allow him to make his film R-rated?

Speaking with Empire, Tarantino confirmed that would definitely be the case. “Oh yeah!” Tarantino told the outlet. “It’s an R-rated movie. If I do it, it’ll be R-rated.”

For those who don’t recall, many moons ago, Tarantino expressed his interest in doing the story for a Star Trek movie, and J.J. Abrams quickly followed up with him, and a screenplay was commissioned based on Tarantino’s ideas. At the time, Tarantino was neck-deep in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, so maybe with that out of the way, he can get started supervising the direction of the story.
