Zack Snyder On Why Batman Used A Spear To Take On Superman

As the distance between now and the release of Justice League widens, director Zack Snyder seems to be more and more outspoken about his ideas surrounding the film and Batman v Superman before it. Enough time has passed to where audiences have virtually said everything they need to about it, and it’s time for the man himself to jump into the conversation and give his insider’s thoughts.

One particular detail in Batman v Superman that some fans pointed to as odd had to do with the fight between Batman and Superman. No, I’m not talking about why it took so long for Superman to get a word in, nor am I talking about how annoying it was that they were fighting over misunderstandings instead of moral differences. I’m talking about the use of a spear.

Batman had this elaborate plan to take down, but at the end, he was planning on taking him down with a spear. A spear?! All those gadgets and he goes with a spear? Well, there’s a very specific reason for that, as Snyder revealed on Vero.

Gotta love Zack Snyder for this kind of stuff. No matter how pulpy or ridiculous, he loves to throw in the religious imagery. Of course, you may have an opinion regarding whether or not it makes his storytelling any more effective, but that’s up for interpretation. While it’s all good in theory, it still can come of quite shallow since it’s such a base-level allusion.
