The DCEU could have been a lot different had they stayed the course with Zack Snyder’s vision. All we have left of it now are the little bits and pieces that Snyder drops now and then via his Vero account. This weekend on his account he also held a live stream of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice where he did commentary as the film progressed. During that time he revealed small details that help make the DCEU a lot more sense.

One example is the activation of the Mother Boxes in 2017’s Justice League. In the film there was no real reason given as to why they suddenly were activated again. Just that all of a sudden the group of DC heroes needed to get their hands on them before Steppenwolf did. One was located at S.T.A.R. Labs, one in Themyscira and one in Atlantis.

Snyder revealed in his live-stream via Cinemablend, the key moment in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. This came during the final battle between Superman and Doomsday. There was a moment where Superman screams before colliding with Doomsday. This scream according to Snyder could be heard around the Universe and beyond. This is what ultimately woke up the dormant Mother Boxes. Given that Superman is an alien with superpowers on Earth, this is a plausible explanation.

It was in Batman V Superman where we are first introduced to Mother Boxes. In Lexcorp footage we see Silas Stone trying to bring back his son Victor (who then becomes Cyborg) with a Mother Box. In the Ultimate Edition of the film we also see Lex Luthor looking at a holographic message that shows Steppenwolf holding all three boxes.

I would be curious if the Snyder Cut of Justice League would touch on this matter. Would Steppenwolf and Darkseid be also looking for the one that was powerful enough to activate the Mother Boxes? I have a feeling that at some point, we are going to end up getting the Snyder Cut, maybe as an HBO Max promotion? Or some crazy limited release? Or maybe I have just drunk the Kool-Aid and I’m crazy.
