Zack Snyder’s fans are going to have a very good 2021 year.

Not only Zack Snyder’s Justice League is inching closer to release in theaters and HBO Max, but another of his films is also almost ready for release.

We’re talking about the anticipated Netflix’s Army of the Dead. This film is exciting because his directorial debut back in 2004 was with the remake of Dawn of the Dead. So, it’s the return back to familiar territory—zombie horror.

Now, this film is a zombie heist film, in which a bunch of fools plot to rob a casino during a zombie outbreak. It sounds similar to the Korean film Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula, in which a group of mercenaries traveled into zombie quarantine territory to obtain loads of cash from an armored vehicle.

Nonetheless, it’s a Zack Snyder film. He knows blood, gore, and action.

The cast includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighofer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Garret Dillahunt. Snyder wrote the script with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold.

The film was in pre-production hell when it was announced back in 2008. Supposedly, it was meant to be a sequel to Dawn of the Dead. It wasn’t until Netflix acquired the rights from Warner Brothers and Universal Studios that principal photography began in 2019.

Also, an anime titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas is in the works with some of the characters from Army of the Dead. No release date announced yet, but Matthias Schweighofer stars and directs the prequel film.

With the release of its teaser poster, the teaser trailer announced by Zack Snyder is coming this Thursday.

Army of the Dead streams on Netflix starting May 21.
