It seems Zack Snyder’s Star Wars was almost a real movie. The director with the weirdly loyal fanbase tried to get a Star Wars movie off the ground back in 2012, before Disney got on the wagon. Snyder hoped that Lucasfilm would,
“Give me the keys, let me take her [Star Wars] for a spin.”
Thankfully, for a Star Wars fan who doesn’t rate Snyder that highly, it never happened. Snyder talked about this when he recently appeared on Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast. Snyder was in talks to direct a Star Wars spin-off, confirming long-time rumors of almost a decade ago.
Back at the time the rumor was something to do with a Yoda back story. This has never been confirmed and Snyder didn’t give any details here either. I can just imagine a Snyder Star Wars movies and it gives me shivers, not to mention one involving Yoda.

However for all 15 of you Snyder fanatics out there, all is not lost. Whilst Snyder won’t be going near Star Wars anytime soon, he does still have plans for that Kurosawa inspired sci-fi movie.
“Yeah… we talked about it but it never… you know. I’ve been working on it – just away from the Star Wars universe – just on my own, just as a sci-fi thing… It’s still a sci-fi thing, it’s the same story, just kind of now I let Star Wars be Star Wars and I’m just gonna… you know. The eleven-year-old me still wants to make that, now I just know how to – so maybe we’ll see that someday.”
I’m all for Snyder getting the chance to make this movie. If he can find someone to pony up the cash for his five-hour slow motion epic that is. However, I’d rather the Snyder stayed away from Star Wars. I just don’t think we are ready for a deconstruction of the Jedi in the way Snyder would go. But hey, maybe I’m just out of date with what you crazy kids want to see on film these days?
Zack Snyder’s Star Wars! Thank Yoda we didn’t get that. Leave any thoughts you have below.
