Zoe Saldaña Announces She’s Finished With Gamora And The MCU

Zoe Saldaña announces she's finished with Gamora and the MCU

We knew Guardians 3 would be the end for a few, but now Zoe Saldaña announces she’s finished with Gamora and the MCU. THR spoke with the cast of Guardians 3 alonsgide director James Gunn. Topics in a rather large article covered everything from how the roles were first cast, and what problems were faced between Gunn and the studio, to the drama around and after Gunn’s firing by Disney and subsequent rehiring.

However, whilst that’s all an interesting read to me, it hardly counts as relevant news. One segment of the coverage was of great importance however and that’s what Zoe Saldaña had to say. Below is copied straight from the THR piece. It begins with Dave Bautista who we already knew was done with Drax and Marvel going forward.

‘Bautista has been vocal about this being the end of the Guardians line for him, and Saldaña feels the same. The actress had expected to play Gamora in only one movie, and Gunn almost killed her off in Vol. 2. “I don’t think this is the end for the Guardians. It is the end for me, for Gamora,” she says.’

On her last day of filming, Saldaña gave a speech thanking the crew she had known for almost a decade, many of whom were in tears. “I thanked James for just his time and his patience and his guidance and his friendship,” she says.

This would certainly count as the first time we have heard Gamora would not return. Saldaña certainly has enough going on elsewhere and is one of the lead stars in the massive Avatar franchise. I’ll guess perhaps Gunn has a specific end in mind for Gamora, whereas there are hints co-star Pratt may continue in the role of Peter Quill. Clearly Gamora was brought back in Endgame to allow Gunn to tell his Guardians 3 story without losing one of the lead stars. However, I wonder if her ultimate fate may be death after all?

Saldaña had previously hinted in interviews that she hopes all these roles get recast one day with younger actors. However that never felt like she was saying goodbye right now, whilst these latest comments do.

What do you think as Zoe Saldaña announces she’s finished with Gamora and the MCU after Guardians 3? Thoughts below, as always folks.
