Andy Serkis Teases Possible Andor Season 2 Return For Kino Loy

The latest news is that Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy stops working on Season 2 after scab accusations from the WGA.

In a recent catch up with the Andor cast and crew Andy Serkis teases a possible Andor Season 2 return for Kino Loy. ET Online caught up with the cast and crew and they all discussed what comes next for their characters. One major character of Season 1 we didn’t know we’d get back or not is that of Kino Loy played by Serkis. Season 1 spoilers ahead, folks, but Kino’s fate was left as a cliffhanger to the best episode of the season for me.

As the prisoners all flee their captivity by the Empire they have to jump into deep water and swim to freedom. Kino notes to Cass that he cannot swim. However, before Cass can come back to aid him, he is dragged off the ledge by the crowd, leaving Kino’s ultimate fate unknown. In our discussions on The Cantina, we felt that either option can work for Season 2. If there is no story for Kino, then his fate can be left hanging, and remain powerfully effective. If however the writing team has a plan for what happened next to Kino, that will also work. Now we have Serkis hinting that Kino’s return should not be discounted.

“Well, he didn’t die. I don’t know what happened, but he didn’t die. We never see him die,” says showrunner Tiny Gilroy, with Serkis joking that Kino didn’t leap to his death.

“If he jumped, that would be the end of him and he would be out of the picture,” the actor says. “But no, he’s alive and [Kino’s] working out his next move.”

That’s as far as Serkis went, though he did single out who well the show was written, so I’m sure he would come back if asked.

“It’s incredibly gratifying to know that the writing [resonated]. But the fact that people are responding [and are] emotionally engaged in these characters and every single one is so well written and complex… It means something.”

It is interesting that Serkis now says Kino did not jump. Initially after the episode aired the actor claimed he did not know whether Kino jumped or not. If I were in a speculative mood, which I am, I would speculate thus.

My guess is that Kino does return in Season 2, didn’t jump, and thus was likely recaptured by the Empire. If Serkis is involved he would already know, or have already filmed as Andor S2 is filming now. Ergo, I have a feeling Serkis now knows more about Kino’s fate than he did when Season 1 aired.

However….. I could be completely wrong. Maybe Serkis is just good at hyping up his old character? What do you think as Andy Serkis teases a possible Andor Season 2 return for Kino Loy. What would be the best next step for his character story wise? Or, do you think his fate is better left unanswered? As always, leave any thoughts below.
