‘The Expendables 2’ May Have a PG-13 Rating?

Update: In an interview with Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool, Sylvester Stallone confirmed the PG-13 rating for “The Expendables 2.”

He said, “Harry, the film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance…Our final battle is one for the ages. The PG-13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grade scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry.”

One of my favorite Chuck Norris jokes is that “All of Chuck Norris’ stuntmen famously made a movie of their own. It was called ‘The Expendables.’”

But now, a newspaper is reporting that “The Expendables 2” may have a PG-13 per Chuck Norris’ request. So Norris may not be so tough after all.

Norris will star alongside “The Expendables 2” cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture.

With a cast like that, one would expect very big explosions, a high body count and an R-rating.

In a translated interview with the Polish paper Gazeta and translated by blog site Expendables Premiere, it had Norris stating the film’s PG-13 rating.

“In ‘Expendables 2,’ there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. For this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this. But I don’t play in movies like this. Due to that I said I won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13,” said Norris.

So the vulgar language may be axed in the sequel? Oh, my ears may be bleeding. And who knows what else must be compromised from an action film to keep its PG-13 rating. I’m hoping this interview was simply just lost in translation.

Here is the synopsis:

Barney Ross (Stallone), Lee Christmas (Statham), Yin Yang (Li), Gunnar Jensen (Lundgren), Toll Road (Couture), and Hale Caesar (Crews) – with the newest members Bill the Kid (Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu) aboard – are reunited when Mr. Church (Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time—six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother.

This is done the Expendables way…..

The film is directed by Simon West and written by Stallone.

“The Expendables 2” is scheduled for release in theaters on August 17.
