Why Ben Affleck Chose To Play Batman

As DC’s team of superheroes prepares to reign justice down upon theaters, word came a few days ago that Ben Affleck’s future as Batman in the DC extended universe was uncertain. Affleck recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Liveand spoke about what made him decide to take on the role of Gotham’s hero in the first place:

“Literally the reason I took this movie, imagining that like, you know, wearing that costume. I have a little boy and having my son see me, you know, everybody wants their kid to thing of them as a superhero.”

I remember the outrage when Affleck was first cast as Batman, many fans were anything but pleased. However, for me, I learned my lesson on casting choices way back in 2008, when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker in The Dark Knight. I never really passed judgement on the decision until after I watched Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and I thought Affleck did a fine job as both Batman and Bruce Wayne.

Affleck has now portrayed the Caped Crusader in three movies, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and of course, Justice League. I hope he decides to stay on as Batman, the DC universe is already unstable and a change in actor isn’t something it needs.
