Looks like another smaller comic series is getting the small screen treatment, and this time around, it’s coming from Amazon. The property in question is called The Boys, and it’s from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Adapting the comic for Amazon is Eric Kripke, who is known for series like Supernatural, Revolution, and Timeless.
Now, Deadline is reporting that actor Karl Urban has been hired to lead the show as the character Billy Butcher. The story follows a group of vigilantes who set out to take down corrupt heroes. They call themselves “The Boys,” and the name of the leader Urban is playing is Billy Butcher.
The show is set to be directed by long-time collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who have already done great things with their AMC series Preacher and their Hulu series Future Man. Amazon has announced that they’ve picked up The Boys for an eight-episode season, and they are set to premiere it in 2019.
Without a doubt, Urban is a great get for the series. While he hasn’t been able to break out in feature films as a leading man, he’s become well-known as a solid supporting actor. Perhaps with a show like The Boys, it’ll open up some eyes as to his overall lead potential.
