Remember in Ant-Man how Hank Pym was talking to Scott about not doing the thing otherwise he’d die, and that at some point near the end of the film, Scott realized that if he didn’t do the thing, then his daughter could die? Well, after Scott did the thing, he still managed to find a way not to die, and that’s apparently helped to inspire the goal for the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp.
The “thing” I’m referring to is taking the safety off the Ant-Man suit and allowing himself to go sub-atomic. We thought it was the end for him, but he still managed to get himself back to his normal, everyday size. This meant that Janet Van Dyne — Hope’s mother and Hank’s wife — who had disappeared going sub-atomic may actually be alive.
This moment in Ant-Man helped inspire the motivations for the characters in Ant-Man and the Wasp, as actress Evangeline Lilly revealed to EW.
“Scott entered the Quantum Realm in the first film and came back, which is something they thought was impossible. The question has arisen, ‘Can Janet come back?’ So the entire film, my character is hell-bent on finding a way to get into the Quantum Realm and bring her back.”
It makes sense. I can only imagine that on the heels of that first Ant-Man, Hope and Hank were hard at work finding a way to find her, but then Ant-Man went off to help Captain America and potentially threw a wrench in the whole thing. That, of course, is speculation on my part, but seems to be a possibility.
What do you think of this motivation? I think it certainly helps that they are actively searching for her rather than somehow stumbling onto her. Let us know your thoughts down below!
