Sometimes reboots are an awful thing. Sometimes they only taint what came before it and end up being nothing but meaningless cash grabs. Sometimes, however, you get the exact opposite. You get a film that looks to right the wrongs of the past and send things off in a whole new direction. That’s the kind of film Halloween was. It wiped the slate clean of all previous Halloween films that came after the original, and followed up that story directly.

The movie took in $255 million worldwide, and given its $10 million budget, that’s a pretty solid taking. A sequel was inevitable, and even the producers and directors told outlets and fans that it would be in the best interest of everyone to keep going — if it’s indeed what fans wanted.

The almighty wallet has spoken, and according to Collider, we can expect the horror sequel Halloween 2 (or technically Halloween 3…or whatever the hell you want to call it) on October 16, 2020. While it’s not 100% confirmed, Jamie Lee Curtis looks to return once again as Laurie Strode.

David Gordon Green, who directed the recent reboot, also wrote the script for the upcoming film and is expecting to return to helm it as well.
