Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Is The Longest Star Wars Film To Date

Over time, the runtimes for Star Wars films have trended upwards. Starting out at just over two hours, Star Wars: A New Hope really set the tone of brevity for the franchise — one that would slowly be abandoned over the decades as the plot became more convoluted and the mythology denser. In fact, Star Wars: The Last Jedi clocked in at 152 minutes, the longest thus far in the franchise.

Until this December. Tickets have finally gone on sale for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and with that, we also had a reveal of the runtime — and I will say, it’s not a surprise. Not too long ago, we reported the film at 155 minutes based on the runtime submitted to theaters for their planning purposes. It looks like they were spot-on, as the updated runtime is the exact same.

So, as it stands, you can expect to have to hold your bladder for 2 hours and 35 minutes. It’s no Avengers: Endgame by any means, but it’s a hefty chunk of Star Wars to end the entire saga on. So, if you wanted to go out on a lengthy note, it looks like The Rise of Skywalker will do.

Are you excited to see that The Rise of Skywalker will be the lengthiest opus yet? Sound off down below!
