Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is still at the top of my list of Disney made Star Wars content. As it turns out a beloved character was nearly part of the film. Yes, Mr. ‘It’s a trap’ himself, Admiral Ackbar, almost led the Rebellion into battle in the orbit over the planet Scarif.
Gary Whitta, who was responsible for the story of Rogue One (he also had a hand in Star Wars Rebels) recently revealed he had big plans for Ackbar, but The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams, had already sort of called dibs on using the character. Check out the tweet posted by Whitta below.
Originally Ackbar led the orbital attack over Scarif but JJ had got to him first so he was replaced with Raddus. https://t.co/xJN6EBVF4T

Ackbar is a beloved Star Wars character, perhaps not top tier, but surely part of the crew. He was key at a number of battles and his expertise was greatly appreciated. As much screentime as Ackbar had in The Force Awakens, I’m not sure why he couldn’t have appeared in both films, perhaps to make way for newer characters, who knows what’s going on over at Disney (I’m only kidding).
How would you have felt seeing Ackbar in Rogue One and not The Force Awakens? Let us know in the comments down below!
