Stranger Things 4 isn’t the end. But when is the end?

Stranger Things never felt like a show destined to run forever. Even from the beginning, it very much felt like each season was a standalone novel. Yes, the mythology would build from each volume to the next, but it never felt like it was destined to continue on forever. Even from day one, we had early reports of creators Matt and Ross Duffer aiming for a three to five-season arc. But now that those years are approaching…what can we expect.

Last year saw Stranger Things 3 launch, and this year, production started on Stranger Things 4 before it was shut down. Should the series hold true to its limited run, we could be approaching the end. But is Stranger Things 4 going to be the end of the Netflix original series?

“Season four won’t be the end,” co-creator Ross Duffer told THR. “We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.”

So, as of this writing, Stranger Things will have at least two more seasons on Netflix. And, thanks to the pandemic, it sounds like they’ve had times to really iron out the way things will conclude. In my gut, I sense Season 5 will be the end, but if there are more seasons, I can’t imagine it going beyond six. Of course, that’s all speculation, and even if it goes beyond that, I’m happy they’ve had a chance to map out the rest of the series.

At the end of the day, the length doesn’t matter as much as their conviction moving forward. As we near the endgame, I’d like to think that every season moves toward an inevitable conclusion of sorts. Are you happy that Stranger Things 4 won’t mark the end of the show? Sound off down below!
