The Alien Franchise Coming To Marvel Comics March 2021

Alien

Earlier this year, Marvel Comics had announced that the iconic and terrifying world of the Alien franchise would be featured in an all-new comic book series. Today they announced that Xenomorph would be invading the pages of Marvel books this coming March. The series will be written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson. With artwork by Salvador Larroca. It will feature both new and classic characters from Earth and beyond. They say that Johnson’s bold take on the Alien mythology will be accessible to both longtime fans and newcomers to the legendary horror/science-fiction saga.

This Alien series is going to feature a Weyland-Yutani mercenary named Gabriel Cruz. He will be taking on a deadly new breed of xenomorph with the survival of his child in the balance. Johnson seems like the right person for the job. He recently was on the creative team for the horror series Marvel Zombies: Resurrection. “Just as a reader and fan, I was as excited as anyone when I heard the franchise was coming to Marvel, and when they asked me to WRITE THE LAUNCH, I was floored. I’ve been training my whole life for this gig without knowing it,” Johnson said. “Ever since seeing Ridley Scott’s ALIEN at way too young an age, I’ve been OBSESSED with the xenomorph, the single most iconic representation of terror on film.”

“Drawing this has been like a dream come true. I am so grateful to be a part of this series!” said Larroca. “Ever since I was young, ALIEN has been of my favorite sci-fi horror references, and I never could have expected to have the chance to draw this. ALIEN is a creative reference to a whole generation of artists, and I’m so proud to now be illustrating this series. I hope readers enjoy it as much as I do drawing it! Phillip’s story is going to be a delight for fans of this awesome franchise!”

“I’ve devoured every ALIEN story I could in every medium available. Spent a lot of hours in the back of a classroom sketching out ideas for what happened before, after, and in-between the chapters we got to see. Now I have the opportunity to bring my favorite nightmares to life. And with my insanely talented friends at Marvel and some of the greatest artists in comics telling these stories with me, I can promise you: our nightmares will be yours.”

The Alien franchise started off way back in 1979. The story followed a warrant officer named Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver. She battles with the extraterrestrial lifeform that is now known as either the Alien or Xenomorph. This was directed by Ridley Scott from 20th Century Fox. So technically yes, the xenomorph is now a Disney character. The franchise followed u with three sequels and two prequels. We have even seen a crossover with the Predator series that has produced two films.

It will be interesting to see what this new breed of xenomorph brings to the franchise. Hopefully, they don’t complicate the series more than they have to. The other thing is that I hope they tell a compelling story that doesn’t just try to rest on the Alien name alone. Lucky for us we don’t have too long to wait.
