Happy 30th birthday, Deadpool!

Thirty years ago, Rob Liefeld created the sword-wielding and trigger-happy mercenary Deadpool to bring new life to the flailing New Mutants franchise.

To fans’ delight, the sarcastic antihero became a fan favorite immediately and sold millions of comics. Liefeld’s X-force #1 sold 5 million copies and currently stands as the number two selling comic of all time.

Also, the character launched an R-rated movie franchise for Fox that generated over $2 billion. It even generated and inspired derivative characters like Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, Venompool, and more.

Starting in January 2021, Liefeld launches the behind-the-scenes creation of the character in his 5-part series “The Making of Deadpool” on his personal podcast Robservations with Rob Liefeld. The podcast offers insights into character development, design, and beyond. Liefeld will also reveal certain secrets and behind-the-scenes stories.

“I’m so excited to share in and experience all the Deadpool love that is headed our way!” said Liefeld in a statement. “Reunited and it feels so gross! I mean, feels so good!!”

Liefeld plans in returning to Marvel with a series of Deadpool themed projects, including a Deadpool Nerdy 30! one shot and a series of 30 Deadpool celebratory covers throughout the year. It includes cameos from other Liefeld creations and other surprise visitors from the Marvel Universe.

Of course, there are more announcements in the upcoming months for Deadpool’s 30th anniversary. Stay tuned for more surprises from Rob Liefeld. Or perhaps another Deadpool movie announcement.
