According to Variety Warner Bros. has named Tom Ascheim to oversee the future of the Harry Potter franchise. What this shift will means for the series as well as fans remains to be seen. Just as with Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lord of the Rings, and so on and so forth, I am a huge fan of Harry Potter and the world in which he exists, so I am very happy to hear this news.
You can check out what WarnerMedia chief Ann Sarnoff had to say in a statement below.
“In Harry Potter and the Wizarding World, we have an iconic franchise and characters that have become a beloved part of the lives of millions around the world. This new management of the franchise highlights its enormous importance to Warner Bros. and the myriad opportunities we see for continuing to engage and delight fans of all ages across the globe. I’m excited for Tom to be leading our efforts and look to him and his team to work across the company to discover innovative and creative ways of keeping the Wizarding World fresh and relevant for years to come.”

Tom Ascheim:
“I’ve been an avid Harry Potter fan for years and an admiring observer of how the Wizarding World franchise has been managed. I’m honored to now be leading the very talented individuals and teams who have done such a great job in growing this brand and its meaning and value to fans everywhere. I look forward to going even further in exploring and expanding all of the opportunities we have in this incredible world.”
I’m thinking Warner Bros. wants to use HBO Max for Harry Potter in the same way Disney is using Disney Plus for Star Wars. And the potential there is nothing short of awesome. This is a personal hope of mine and to be clear no projects have officially been put in motion. While this move will deliver some kick-ass television series, this expansion could cover new films and even video games. We’ll all just have to be patient and see what happens.
The current expansion of the Potterverse, the Fantastic Beasts franchise, is busy filming its third installment. The upcoming film, like many others, has seen delays due to the pandemic. However, as well as recasting issues when Johnny Depp was replaced as Grindelwald by Mads Mikkelson.
