After a storytelling romance that swept us off our feet, many fans’ love affair with Game of Thrones ended quite bitterly. Enough time has passed that most of us are open to rekindling that relationship. With a handful of promising projects on the horizon, the future of spin-offs set in Westeros isn’t dark at all and terrors are nowhere to be found.
HBO president Casey Boys recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and talked about expanding author George R. R. Martin’s brutal and justiceless fantasy world. You can check out what he had to say below.
“The way we try to approach it is not by [saying], ‘We need five shows within three years,’ but ‘What are the stories worth telling?’ We’ve been developing multiple takes on different worlds. The one I want to do is the one that I think is best creatively. I prefer to make it about the stories and the showrunners and their vision as opposed to hitting some arbitrary target for the right number of shows.

Westerosi Spin-Offs Are Coming
HBO isn’t done milking the fantasy cash cow known as Game of Thrones just yet as three new series are headed our way. And who could blame them? The initial series based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series was wildly popular and raised the bar for what a television show could be, during the majority of its run anyway.
The current lineup includes House of the Dragon which will dive more into the history of the Targaryen family. Tales of Dunk and Egg, is mine held in high regard by book-reading friends of mine. The series will adapt Martin’s series on novellas and is likely to be a medieval buddy-cop series. An untitled animated series is also currently in development, details of which as scarce.
