This new decade starts off with the cancellation of everything and anything before 2020.
In the past few years, the woke society moved against films Gone with the Wind and Breakfast at Tiffanyâs to Elmer Fuddâs using a rifle in promotion as a pro-gun person. In the past few weeks alone, there is a push against rapper Eminemâs music for having lyrics interpreted promoting domestic violence and Dr. Seussâs six books cancellation due to its racist portrayals against blacks and Asians. And, this isnât mentioning the banned by Disney+ to let children under seven years old watch animated films Dumbo, Aristocats, and Peter Pan due to its alleged racial portrayals.
Now, the week is not over. A columnist at the New York Times Tweeted that cancel culture should now go after two more Looney Tunesâ animated skunk character Pepe Le Pew and throwing in the Mexican mouse Speedy Gonzalez.
The debate is already raging on Twitter this weekend.
Columnist Charles M. Blow claims on Twitter today that Pepe Le Pew âadded to the rape culture.â In the cartoons, the skunk is relentless in his French-romanticism against a cat that constantly resists his unwanted charms.
âRW blogs are bc I said Pepe Le Pew added to rape culture. Letâs see 1. He grabs/kisses a girl/stranger, repeatedly, w/o consent and against her will. 2. She struggles mightily to get away from him, but he wonât release her 3. He locks a door to prevent her from escaping,â he Tweeted.

Twitter user @peacelovingnj agreed with the columnist. She wrote, “This. Happens. To. Us. All. The. Time. Constantly fighting off unwanted advancements is our everyday fight. Guys like Pepe Le Pew are our worst nightmare. I have to agree with this one. It hits close to home.”

Constantly fighting off unwanted advancements is our everyday fight.
Guys like Pepe Le Pew are our worst nightmare.
I have to agree with this one.
It hits to close to home. https://t.co/LK2W4oHdRn

However, some people are pushing back on Twitter against the cancel culture.
The Twitter user @JackPosobiec mentioned, âIf the NY Times says Pepe Le Pew adds to rape culture, what will they say about the Coming to America sequel where the entire plot is based on Leslie Jonesâ character date-raping Prince Akeem?â

Another Twitter user @Vlad_Stakeumms stated, âPepe Le Pew is not â nor will he ever be â a part of ârape culture.â The character is being presented completely out of context by those with a progressive agenda. The subtlety and the nuance is lost of them; they donât understand heâs the butt of the joke â the moral lesson.

NY Times columnist Charles M. Blow tweeted one more time against the defenders of these cartoons.
âMisogynists â just like racists and homophobes â will defend to the death their ârightâ to exercise harm, and to in fact excuse the harm as harmless,â he wrote.
