WandaVision: Doctor Strange Was Responsible For Commercials, But Was Cut From Show

WandaVision feels like it ended forever-ago. Yet, like any good Marvel Studios project, the team behind the Disney+ series are still happy to answer fan questions.

We’ve heard the rumor that Doctor Strange was originally supposed to appear in the show’s finale. The rumor suggested he didn’t make the show because actor Benedict Cumberbatch was trapped elsewhere in the world due to the pandemic.

Now, Kevin Feige has opened up about the real reason Doctor Strange wasn’t in WandaVision. Not only that, Feige cleared up a show mystery in the process.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Feige said:

Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would’ve been so cool to see Dr. Strange. But it would have taken away from Wanda, which is what we didn’t want to do. We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie — here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’

Rolling Stone reports that this also resulted in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness rewrites. WandaVision head writer Jac Shaeffer added that the in-show commercials were messages from Doctor Strange and there was talk of featuring Strange in one of them.

While this would have made the show make more sense, I do prefer the route with Agatha telling Wanda just enough to lead to her own research on The Scarlet Witch. In the end, it’s a mysterious show centered around magic so there are plenty of explanations to why the commercials manifested as they did. You know, like it was Wanda’s subconscious all along.

‘Nuff said.
