Sony’s Marvel movies have a new name. Gone is the SPUMC and reborn is the SSMU, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Sony revealed the new name at their CinemaCon presentation. That presentation included that trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. although that’s not in the SSMU, it’s in the MCU. Yeah! The information was revealed by ScreenRant in their article covering the presentation.
As said above, the official name was the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, though it was more commonly known as either the VenomVerse or the fMCU by many fans. However now we can rejoice at having a much easier acronym to use, it has an entire letter less than the previous one which is great, right? Of course Spider-Man himself isn’t actually in this SSMU that’s named after him, yet. No, he is still in the MCU, you know, the good one.

However one assumes that eventually the SSMU will actually get to use it’s main character again. Though by that time, the SSMU may be so damaged that Tom Holland isn’t interested? Who knows what the future holds? Actually, I guess I could accurately predict that Sony will make some bad Marvel movies? Then again, perhaps after No Way Home has been and gone, there will be opportunities for the SSMU to improve and actually get their own Spider-Man? I always thought they were crazy for not just using Miles as Spider-Man in their own movies. However could they go down the route of bringing in either Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire? If both are allegedly (they’re in it) in No Way Home, could one of those end up in the SSMU?
All I know is, I want Tom Holland to get a college years trilogy in the MCU. Whether we will be lucky enough to see that though, remains to be seen?
