Star Mahershala Ali gives a Blade update in a recent interview, saying he hopes to get back to it soon, but is very encouraged. Ali spoke with EW recently, and here is what he had to say about the in development Marvel movie. Ali was cast as Blade a long time ago, but script issues saw a rewrite and then add in the WGA and SAG strikes.
“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you,” the actor says. “I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.”
“I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that,” Ali continues. “So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”
We have heard rumors the movie is set to finally begin production in 2024, though not when.

Let’s hope some of those script issues have been ironed out. Marvel can’t say they’ve not had the time on this one. It was reported previously that Ali was not impressed with the script he received from the movie’s previous writers. Though, that remains just a rumor. According to EW Michael Green is now penning the project. Blade will also reportedly star Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo, and Mia Goth.
Thus far all we have seen of Ali in the MCU since he was cast is one off camera voice line in the post-credit scene of Eternals. Since Ali hopes to get back to it soon, we hope those rumors of a 2024 start date are true. I guess we will find out as the months progress.
What do you think of his comments then as Mahershala Ali gives a Blade update? Thoughts below as always.
