Here’s my review of Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3, which aired today on Disney+ and it’s a courtroom Episode folks. I’m staying as spoiler free as I can, but slightly tricker with what amounts to a courtroom procedural and some worldbuilding. The point is, was it a good courtroom procedural?
Yes, I enjoyed Episode 3, which is primarily focused on the trial of of Hector, which we’ve been building to. We know Matt has a witness in protection, but he’s still facing an uphill task.
Now, thing’s don’t necessarily go to plan, so a lot of the accompanying scenes are important. However, the real meat and drama here is prosecution versus defence. There’s not much action, some brutality, but not action and that will put off some Marvel fans. This keeps completely in tone with how Daredevil should work and did work well at Netflix. As long as it’s not all Matt does all season that is.

The trial was, decent, if a little simple. Impassioned pleas and sweeping statements over examination of solid evidence. However, it’s one person’s word against an other at heart, so I guess it’s to be expected. The most interesting parts of the trial I can’t get into for spoilers, but suffice to say I was engaged in the outcome. Plus, we the audience know the truth, that Hector is innocent.
We also have some more Fisk in the background playing Mayor alongside his marriage issues. Face it Fisk, she fell hard for you when you were a violent criminal mastermind, now you’re going straight she’s not interested. Vanessa likes a bad boy. It’s all of course building to Fisk and the police versus vigilantes. This trial, it’s outcome and the events after are setting up the melting pot for when the poop hits the fan soon.
I enjoyed it, courtroom episodes are exactly what I expect from Daredevil and it sets things up well. Well written, well put together, but nothing special to talk with your fellow fans about afterwards. Though, the ending, whilst I expected it, hits hard.
GRADE: B
Dramatic and well put together courtroom episode, with a smattering of superheroes. Probably won’t engage the type fans who need action to break up drama.
